My name is Helen McLeavy. I am married and have a 4 year old son. I'm originally from Newcastle but have lived in Sheffield since coming to Sheffield University in 1998 to study a BMedSci (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy. After qualifying in 2002 and working for a short time, I returned to Sheffield University in 2003 to complete a Masters Level Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing.
After I qualified in 2005, I worked in Oncology at Weston Park Hospital, initially on the wards and then on the chemotherapy unit. I then began work as a Cancer Research Sister in 2009, recruiting patients onto clinical trials in haematology and lung cancer. I left nursing in early 2017 but never lost my love of working with and helping people. I had also seen the profound and positive benefits that complementary therapy could have for patients and this prompted my interest in reflexology. Having had my first reflexology treatment, I was astounded about how much the reflexologist could tell about me just from my feet!
So in 2023, I enrolled with Jubilee College to complete the Agored Cymru Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology. Jubilee College is a highly regarded reflexology training school and is also one of the founding schools with the Integrated Reflexology Consortium.
I loved my training, during which I was trained and examined in both foot and hand reflexology, as well as in various specialisms, and learned how to produce customised treatment plans to support each client with their individual needs.
I really feel like I have now found my perfect job! I love seeing the positive effects that reflexology can have and enjoy feeling like I am making a real difference in my clients' lives.
